Gentium focuses predominantly on the research and development of drugs for rare disease because we believe that patients with rare diseases merit the same quality products as those patients with more common diseases.

Gentium's approach to R&D involves the investigation of active ingredients derived from natural sources.

Gentium R&D is focused on polypharmacological agents, targeting, in particular, endothelial cell protection. Recently, endothelial cells and their associated adhesion molecules have been shown to play a crucial role in coagulation, inflammation and cancer. Gentium currently has 46 patents on several compounds.
